Technical details

This section outlines different areas of technical detail, functionality and operability of ECAD tools with regard to WindChill and the WGM. Another good reference is the Visualization Compatibility matrix and the WGM Compatability matrix on the PTC website.

In addition, here are a few important Definitions to understand when learning about PLM and ECAD.

Configuration

modification of system settings in the PLM system to allow business requirements to be met

Customization

creation of customized code or other structures in the PLM system to allow business requirements to be met.

PLM

Product Lifecycle Management; is the process of managing the entire lifecycle of a product from its conception, through design and manufacture, to service and disposal.

ECAD

Electrical Computer Aided Design

MCAD

Mechanical Computer Aided Design

ECAD/MCAD Collaboration

Exchange of data between the ECAD and MCAD domain or CAD tools that enables the opposite domain to have visibility into their respective design requirements.

Version

The combination of Revision and Iteration to form the complete Version scheme; A.1

Revision

The Prefix of the Version schema; A.

Iteration

The Suffix of the Version schema; .1

Part (or WTPART)

A software representation of a physical part or assembly in the PLM system.

recent news

data vaulting

Move off antiquated file shares / Software Version control systems. Fast and simple storage is step 1.

Data Collaboration

Visualization / Markup & Compare tools form the basis of feedback from the entire organization to the design teams.

Change Tracking

Leverage existing or new workflows that are tracked, monitored, and captured in the PLM system.

ECAD/MCAD Collaboration

Leverage newly developed STEP formats to enable simpler design and communication between disciplines.
